Veterinary Care Program Black Pine's "vet care" program is overseen by a team of veterinarians, Senior Zookeeper Jessica Price, and park founder, Karen Hoag. We're proud to work with a great team of local professionals who support our mission and do an outstanding job in caring for our exotic keep. Thank you all! Jay Kumaran, DVM Allpet Hospital and Lasery Surgery 3030 N. Clinton St. Fort Wayne, IN 46805 (260) 482-1534
Jessica Price and Dr. Jay Kumaran examine Ghana (while sedated), a 15-year-old male African lion retired from Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus. Ghana suffered a stroke, and later was euthanized. Dr. Kumaran's quick diagnosis and treatment helped make this difficult situation easier to endure, and we greatly appreciated his genuine affection and professional care, as always. Dr. Kumaran and his wife, Patrice, announced in November 2006 their extraordinary support of the park's Relocation Project. The Kumaran's made a significant cash contribution, and will donate all professional services to the sanctuary, and will help build and furnish a new vet care facility on site in 2007! For more information about the Relocation Project, click here.
Bandit, a resident coati mundi underwent a routine examine as Jessica Price, zookeeper (right), and interns Christy (left) and Jenna (center) assisted. All animals undergo routine exams and receive vaccinations on a regular basis. Dr. Kumaran enjoys the opportunity to share his knowledge and experience with interns.
William Kerley, DVM Anthony Animal Clinic 7202 S. Anthony Blvd. Fort Wayne, IN 46816 (260) 447-1558
Dr. William Kerley and Jessica Price examine Montrose (who was asleep for this procedure), a six-year-old male Bengal tiger shortly after he was adopted and rescued from poor living conditions in a private home. Dr. Kerley provided excellent care to Montrose, Darly, and Luna upon their arrival at the park, as well as all of the other park residents. We appreciate his continued support and services.
